Tom Steyer
- Environmental Policy Advocate
Tom Steyer is a former presidential candidate and Co-Chair of the Biden for President Campaign’s Climate Engagement Advisory Council. Tom Steyer left his successful private equity business seven years ago to give his own money and all his time and energy to fighting for progressive causes. He has uniquely combined philanthropy, activism and leadership to become one of the country’s leading advocates for fighting climate change, driving energy transformation, registering young voters and promoting racial justice.
Tom and his wife, Kat Taylor, founded the TomKat Center for Sustainable Energy and the Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance at Stanford University. Tom and Kat also co-founded Beneficial State Bank in Oakland, a nonprofit community bank. They were also early signers of the Giving Pledge, a commitment to give the bulk of their fortune to good causes before they die.
Tom and Kat met while training to run marathons – and now they also run a sustainable ranch that raises grass fed chicken and beef.
