I am an IBM Research executive passionate about bringing innovation to market that makes complex systems easy to use. I lead teams breaking new ground in platforms, programming models and tools to make creating AI models and applications in the cloud a delightful experience for data scientists and developers. We tackle problems at the intersection of core AI, distributed systems, cloud comptuing, human computer interaction and visualization. Our most recent work forms the foundation of Deep Learning in IBM Watson Studio, where we also open sourced the core fabric as Project FfDL.

Prior to this role, I was Director of Cloud Platform, Programming Models and Runtimes. Our research resulted in Apache OpenWhisk and IBM Cloud Functions, Swift@IBM, API Harmony and Amalgam8 (now Istio). Before that, I led efforts on Machine Learning in Business Process and Case Management, drove the IBM Bluemix Workflow service, made foundational contributions to SOA and Web standards where my papers have over 6k citations, been a cloud architect in IBM GTS, and Technical Assistant to the GM & CTO of IBM Cloud. I serve on the Advisory Board of the Hariri Institute for Computing at Boston University.

I’ve lived in 8 countries, spent a summer teaching kids CS in India, and hold a PhD with honors from U. Stuttgart and Masters and Bachelors in EECS from MIT focused on Computer Vision.
