Matt Trevithick is the Chief Operating Officer of Google Quantum AI and is based in Mountain View. This team was the first to demonstrate that a quantum computer could out-perform the world’s most powerful classical supercomputer on a particular task. Matt also directed a reevaluation of cold fusion that included sponsored research at MIT.

Prior to joining Google Research 5 years ago, Matt was a partner at Venrock, the venture capital firm established by the Rockefeller family, where he focused on clean energy technologies. His investments include Lucid Motors (electric vehicles), Phononic (advanced thermoelectrics), Nest (smart home controls), and TAE Technologies (plasma fusion). Earlier in his career, Matt co-founded two internet software companies that were successfully acquired (one with several colleagues from MIT), and researched superconductivity and other collective quantum effects. Matt was captain of MIT’s varsity squash team, and earned the S.B. in Course 6-1 (Electrical Science & Engineering) and S.M. in Course 15 (Management).
