Wildfire and Air Quality Virtual Panel
Nov 10 - Virtual Event

Climate change induced drought and aridity will continue to increase wildfire size and
intensity. To help reduce the adverse impacts of climate-change driven wildfires, we
need:

  • More ground-based and satellite measurements of the atmosphere and fire conditions
  • Continued development of models that can simulate and forecast wildfire smoke
transport, fire behavior, and other related physical processes
  • A better understanding of how wildfire smoke deteriorates air quality and impacts
    human health
  • More information on how climate change and human development near the
wildland-urban interface is increasing wildfire risk

This panel will discuss how improved measurements and smoke transport models can
improve air quality forecasts and reduce human exposure to wildfire smoke.
