Join us to hear James discuss the practical (and impractical) aspects of IP, reviewing aspects of IP important to all technology startups but with a focus on patents as applied to software and machine learning applications (managing an open source project, releasing a tech product, or dealing with established stakeholders).

Part IP overview and part tales of the good, bad, and ugly of IP, James will share experiences from his 12+ years practicing IP law, including: how Cold War game theory simulations affect open source diligence; what barcodes and patent reform at the 106th Congress have to do with the MIT Media Lab; why James isn’t welcome in some parts of Palo Alto because of a children’s book he wrote; how killing a bad patent deal with customized combinatorics software is more satisfying than paying a consultant $100K+ to opine about “latent synergistic cash flow externalities” and more.
